Jessie Ball duPont Fund Welcomes Jacksonville Philanthropist, Entrepreneur and Community Leader David Miller as New Trustee

February 8, 2024 - Jacksonville, Florida - The Trustees of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund voted to confirm Jacksonville-based entrepreneur and philanthropist David Miller as the duPont Fund’s seventh trustee. His tenure began on February 6, 2024.

“We are thrilled to welcome David to this group of passionate, thoughtful Trustees, and we are excited for his energy and expertise as we work to achieve greater impact around placemaking and equity in the communities and institutions that Jessie Ball duPont loved,” said Anna Escobedo Cabral, chair for the Jessie Ball duPont Fund Trustees and partner at The Cabral Group. “David is a proven champion for equity, a trusted advisor, and a longstanding leader in the Jacksonville community; his presence will benefit all of the communities the duPont Fund serves.”

David Miller is the co-founder of Brightway Insurance, one of the largest property and casualty insurance retailers in the country. His philanthropic contributions and community building center around four social action pillars: public discourse, poverty, education, and social justice.

“I believe that communities reach their collective potential only when each individual reaches their own personal potential, which aligns with the Jessie Ball duPont Fund’s mission of expanding access to opportunity and creating inclusive growth,” David said. “I look forward to helping to direct the duPont Fund’s resources and collaborative energy to solving these challenges for the communities we serve.”

David is engaged in a number of major initiatives promoting access and inclusion across Jacksonville: was a lead investor in the Emerald Trail and is currently one of its co-champions. He was an early investor in LiftJax, a duPont Fund grantee that is successfully working with stakeholders from across the community to ensure systemic prosperity and re-energize the Eastside neighborhood. He is passionate about bringing people together to address the complex issue of improving educational outcomes, with ongoing investments in City Year, Read USA, and the Jacksonville Public Education Fund.

David currently serves on the Senior Advisory Council for OneJax, and recently invested in the Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute, which brings youth from all over the city together to build character and develop future leaders. The program now bears the name of his mother who was instrumental in developing the program nearly 30 years ago.

He is also an ongoing investor in the United Way and serves or has served on a number of other boards including VyStar Foundation, Jacksonville Civic Council and Jacksonville Civic Council Foundation, Jacksonville Arts and Music School, Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute, Leadership Jacksonville, Chamber of Commerce, and Jewish Community Alliance, where he is a past president.

In 2023, David established the Together Strong Community Fund as a vehicle to build bridges and combat hate and bias of all kinds. David and his wife Monique have two children, Josh and Leah.

David joins the Trustees after the duPont Fund successfully petitioned to remove the requirement of a corporate co-trustee in 2023. More information about that decision is available on the duPont Fund website. He joins six duPont Fund trustees who represent national and international public and private organizations with expertise in the nonprofit, higher education, religious and banking and investment sectors.
